What is manometry?

Manometry is routinely done to check the function of the concerned organ.

Esophageal manometry is done to check the function of the esophagus and swallowing.

Esophageal manometry procedure:

During the manometry procedure, after applying a local anesthetic agent, through the nostrils, a manometry catheter is inserted. *Patient has to swallow water and pressure monitoring is done on the computer. *Readings are taken in a laying down and sitting position. *Once the necessary recordings are done,the catheter is removed from the nostril. *This procedure usually takes 15 to 20 minutes.

Anorectal manometry procedure:
