What is HPB surgery?

HPB (Hepatopancreatobiliary) surgery is a speciality dedicated to surgical treatment of diseases pertaining to liver(hepato-H), pancreas (P),gall bladder and bile ducts(biliary-B) and pancreas(P). HPB surgery is a subspeciality of abdominal(Gastro or GI surgery) surgery which has developed very well in the US, UK and eastern world as well. It has also developed in North and south India. MCh programme has started in ILBS, New Delhi for the first time in India.

What is Laparoscopy?

Laparoscopy or key-hole or ‘laser’ surgery as the lay term goes, involves surgery of the abdomen by small incicions with a laparoscope(special endoscope). It leads to faster postoperative recovery, lower postoperative pain and early return to work.We provide basic laparoscopic surgeries like laparoscopic cholecystectomy and appendicectomy, and advanced laparoscopy like laparoscpic GI cancer surgeries, laparoscopic splenectomy, achalasia cardia, laparoscopic splenectomy etc.
